Southwell racecourse is a horseracing venue located to the east of Southwell, Nottinghamshire, England. The racecourse was founded way back in 1850, and is owned by the Arena Racing Company. It is known for hosting flat and National Hunt races. Due to its unique blend of excitement and comfort, the racecourse has become a very popular venue in the East Midlands. It can be used throughout the year, making it one of the six racecourses in the United Kingdom to be all-weather. In 2007 when the Doncaster Racecourse had been closed up for renovation, Southwell racecourse hosted the Great Yorkshire Chase.

In 2012, the racecourse closed down temporarily due to a severe flooding that caused destruction to the tracks and buildings. It however re-opened on the 5th of February 2013 and its activities continued as usual. Currently, the
racecourse holds a total of 50 fixtures every year. This makes it one of the busiest courses in the country.

This year, the Southwell racecourse will be hosting a significant number of events. For example, on April 20th will be the Free Friday. This event gives people the perfect opportunity to get together with friends and family, while
enjoying the evening races. Free Grandstand tickets will be available as well as transportation from Newark and Southwell. The dress code in the Premier Enclosure is smart casual, not including fancy dresses, sportswear and
trainers. Individuals under the age of 18 will enter free in the company of an adult. On Tuesday the 15th of May will be the Countryside evening. There will be a parade of hounds and shire horses in the evening before the races begin. Those looking forward to attend this event will be having a variety of ticket options, including the seasons gold package, which goes for 72 Euros, seasons silver packages going for 57 Euros, and much more. The racecourse offers a wide range of hospitality packages, making their visitors comfortable.

2020 wasn’t the easiest of years by any measure, and those difficulties extended to UK Racing . While the Cheltenham Festival went ahead (as essentially the last big sporting event before lockdown) sadly the Grand National was cancelled. Thankfully in 2021, while we’re not quite out of the woods, the Cheltenham Festival is at least due to go ahead once again this Tuesday, albeit without crowds. ITV is expected to use a previous crowd roar, to emulate the Cheltenham Roar that is so integral to the start of this stand-out Festival of racing. With the Festival just around the corner now let’s get into the spirit of things with a Betway Racing Cheltenham based quiz featuring some familiar footballing faces.
