Introduction

Having been around the racing scene for some time, the irrepressible Kieren Fallon has been winning trophies longer than many jockeys have been active. Into his 50s, Fallon was still winning trophies in 2014, when he was just approaching his fifth decade on the planet. With his first win arriving as far back as 1997, too, he’s had a long career of varied and consistent success.

Having started out as a stable jockey for Henry Cecil, he recorded his first win at a Classic when he won the 1,000 Guineas riding Sleepytime. From there, the rest became history as he went on to become a hard-working jockey who was only ever held back by a poor disciplinary record.

With a ten-day ban early into his career, he controversially won the Epsom Oaks when having his ban postponed. With 202 wins in this season, he won the Champion Jockey for the first time. from there, he went on to become a popular and successful jockey.

Career Summary

Fallon, though, left the tutelage of Cecil for reasons that were never fully disclosed. With the end of his association with Cecil, he moved to work with Michael Stoute to win even more success and fame over his career. After leaving here, too, he went to work with Aidan O’Brien before a controversial ban put on him by the French racing authorities more or less put his career on ice. With metabolites testing positive after a race at Chantilly, he lost a year of his career.

He returned as a freelance jockey, riding more than 140 winners himself before retiring with depression. We hope that Kieren can find the peace that he deserves.
