Already a retained rider for the elite Qatar Racing, Murphy has made a rapid start to his career as a jockey. Despite only starting out in 2013 at the tender age of 18, he’s made an instant impact on the sport. By riding four winners at the prestigious Ayr Gold Cup in 2013, including the feature race he made the world sit up and take notice of a young star on the rise.

 

2013 seen him take 13 winners in total across the Australian racing scene, too. The nephew of the famous Jim Culloty, Murphy was crowned the champion apprentice in 2014, with a whopping 91 winners.

 

His first Series win came in the QIPCO British Champions Series aboard Hot Streak. Still young and learning, it’s sure that more is to come for this young superstar.

Introduction

 

Still building is career today is Daryl Jacob, an Irish jockey who rides as the number one for Paul Nicholls. The heir to the throne of Ruby Walsh, Jacob took over when Walsh moved on and became an impressive part of a growing list of achievements in his own fledgling career. With several landmark wins that helped launch a growing career from the rest of the pack, there’s little doubt that Daryl Jacob has a long lasting and highly successful career ahead of him in the sport of racing.

 

Career Summary

 

Rising to prominence with his 2011 win at Triumph Hurdle in the Cheltenham Festival, Jacob quickly became a name. This was his first breakout moment after taking over from Walsh as the top boy in the Nicholls yard and In 2014, he took yet another win at the Cheltenham Festival when he rode Lac Fontana in the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle, winning on the last day of the prestigious festival.

 

Sadly, his luck was out that day. He broke his leg, knee and elbow after his ride, Port Melon, crashed into the railing and put him in serious trouble. Now recovered and come back to prominence though, the future looks extremely bright for this talented and determined young jockey.

 

Achievements & Highlights

 

Surely the biggest success of his career so far came at the 2012 Grand National, when he won on Neptune Collonges. With hopefully more to come, it was a major and landmark win for the team, as they beat second-placed Sunnyhillboy to win what is regarded as the closest ever finish in the Grand National history.

 

That’s some going for someone so young and with so much further to go in a career that could yet have even more twists and turns to celebrate!

Introduction

 

Having been around the racing scene for some time, the irrepressible Kieren Fallon has been winning trophies longer than many jockeys have been active. Into his 50s, Fallon was still winning trophies in 2014, when he was just approaching his fifth decade on the planet. With his first win arriving as far back as 1997, too, he’s had a long career of varied and consistent success.

 

Having started out as a stable jockey for Henry Cecil, he recorded his first win at a Classic when he won the 1,000 Guineas riding Sleepytime. From there, the rest became history as he went on to become a hard-working jockey who was only ever held back by a poor disciplinary record.

 

With a ten-day ban early into his career, he controversially won the Epsom Oaks when having his ban postponed. With 202 wins in this season, he won the Champion Jockey for the first time. from there, he went on to become a popular and successful jockey.

 

Career Summary

 

Fallon, though, left the tutelage of Cecil for reasons that were never fully disclosed. With the end of his association with Cecil, he moved to work with Michael Stoute to win even more success and fame over his career. After leaving here, too, he went to work with Aidan O’Brien before a controversial ban put on him by the French racing authorities more or less put his career on ice. With metabolites testing positive after a race at Chantilly, he lost a year of his career.

 

He returned as a freelance jockey, riding more than 140 winners himself before retiring with depression. We hope that Kieren can find the peace that he deserves.

Introduction

 

Born in 1958 to the son of a jockey, Michael, and wife Mary, Peter Scudamore went on to become one of the most iconic jockeys of his generation. While many of his records for the likes of seasonal wins have been broken, at one stage he was a prolific record holder who had managed to establish himself as one of the finest in the industry.

 

While he’s out of the game a long time now, his determination to succeed from a young age – and impress his father – formed the backbone for a man who has become one of the most determined and committed of his time. As the son of a Grand National winner, he had a lot to live up to!

 

Career Summary

 

Across his career, starting out in 1978, Scudamore won an incredible volume of trophies. Stable jockey for the world-class Martin Pipe, Scudamore became one of the most successful jockeys of the 80s and 90s. with 1,678 winners across his career – not to mention a glut of medals – he won a huge amount in his career.

 

From two Champion Hurdles to a Queen Mother Champion Cash and a Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, Scudamore won a lot of trophies. The Mackeson Gold Cup joined four Welsh Nationals and two Scottish Nationals on the medal cabinet, too, further reinforcing his position as a prolific winner at an incredibly competitive time for the sport.

 

While he never won the Grand National, the Gold Cup or the King George events, he’s still one of the most respected and revered names within the entirety of the racing circuit.
